The Parvimonas genus contains a single species, P micra, which formerly had been known as Peptostreptococcus micro and was renamed only in 2006. 13 It is a gram-positive anaerobic coccus and is a part of the normal flora of the human gingival crevice and gastrointestinal tract.

In the human body, the large intestine is densely populated with microbes, with around ~10 14 bacteria living there. Recent studies have shown that variations in the intestinal microbiota are connected with CRC. Parvimonas micra (P. micra) are normal constituent of oral and gastrointestinal flora. While there is broad evidence to support the role of P. micra in periodontal and other oral infections, those outside the oral cavity have been underreported [4].
